Good Laboratory Practice Facility

The Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory within the Veterinary Medical Unit (VMU) at the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS) meets the most stringent Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations required by such federal agencies as the Food and Drug Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency. The VMU at CAVHS follows 21 CFR Part 58 in the participation of GLP studies. This laboratory houses the Agilent Mass Spectrophotometer 5975C, Agilent Gas Chomatography Unit 7890A, and Agilent High Performance Liquid Chomatograpy 1200 Series LC. Other equipment within the Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory include two 10 channel, four laser FACSCaliburs flow cytometers, Scanco µCT 35, bone densitomter, Vevo 7700 ultra sound imaging system, VetScan for blood analysis and Hemavet for complete blood counts.

The Quality Assurance Unit is a contracted third party who is responsible for monitoring each study to assure that the facilities, equipment, personnel, methods, practice, records, and controls are in conformance with the regulations. For any given study, the quality assurance unit is entirely separate from and independent of the VMU at CAVHS.
